Use of WI Funds
It is important that all WI members and committee members understand how WI funds may be used. The Treasurer is often asked to advise the committee on whether proposed expenditure is permitted under the WI Constitution and charity law.
Rule 66 of the WI Constitution states:
"The funds of the WI must be applied for the purpose of carrying out the objects of the WI in accordance with this Constitution and for no other purpose."
This means that all income raised by the WI, whether from subscriptions, fundraising activities or donations, must be used to further the charitable objects of the WI and to benefit the organisation as a whole, rather than individual members.
If the committee is unsure whether a proposed use of funds is appropriate, it should seek advice before committing to the expenditure.
