About Caversham WI
A Warm Welcome to Caversham WI
Caversham WI was started in December 1962 at the Church House, Church Street, Caversham RG4 8AX and this is where we still meet on the first Tuesday of the month except for August. During August we have a local garden party in one of our member's gardens and enjoy our yearly boat trip on the Thames.
At our Tuesday monthly meetings we always arrange a good variety of speakers covering all sorts of subjects. Occasionally we may have a craft based evening.
We have a yearly visit to the theatre, The Mill at Sonning. On the third Friday in the month, we meet at the Toby Carvery on Richfield Avenue, RG1 8EQ for an informal lunch and chat.
We are involved in running Caversham Court kiosk for a couple of weekends in the year. Members bake cakes to sell and if they are able, help us in the kiosk for a couple of hours. It is a pleasure to serve and meet local people or people visiting the area. The profit we make selling our cakes goes into our funds to enable us to pay for our speakers.
We also make up emergency packs for the Royal Berkshire Hospital. We hope by making these packs it is a small comfort when people are admitted so that they have a few basic items of a toothbrush, toothpaste, flannel/soap and a comb.
We are always happy to welcome new visitors. We start our meeting at 7.30 pm prompt for a couple of hours. Our itinerary for the evening; we start with our speaker, followed by tea/coffee/biscuit break and finish with any official business and a raffle.
Our programme for the year is listed on this site.
